I've become so consumed and I'm not sure what I can do to alleviate this hold on my life. Every day, all the time. I'm finally starting to realize that this is what my life will be, and I can see it's all because of me. I've made all the choices and I've made even more mistakes. The mistakes that put me in this place. I refuse to follow the predetermined path like so many before me. I've become so consumed, I know I'm not the only one. (I'm not the only one who feels this way) And I know I share this pain (So speak up, speak out and stand with me) So that we don't blend in. Bad decisions have led me here, a dead end job with everything to fear. I know I'm not the only one. I tried to make my own path, but I was treated like an outcast. And now, I won't take it anymore. I will not be a part of this. I will not be part of a system that discourages following your heart. Let us bring an end to the dictation. It's time to stand apart. I can't stand the contradiction here, you tell me that I can do what I want, but still you chain me down. I can't hope to accomplish this alone. Your path isn't the same as mine, but in the end they all converge. So stand with me, for too long have we pretended to be the dreams of those around us. This place wants us all to look exactly the same. No individuality, united under one name. If I can't pursue what makes me happy, then what's the point of opportunity? I will not be part of a system that discourages following your heart. Let us bring an end to the dictation. It's time to stand apart.
